So There’s This Amazon Thing

Amazon Web Services is the granddaddy of cloud computing. In 2004 an Amazon developer had the idea that they could make money selling the services they were building to support and from there a huge cloud platform emerged.

In this talk we’ll look at all of the different services that are available to AWS users. We’ll talk about some of the great strengths of the platform as well as where some of the weaknesses lay. We’ll talk about my experiences using AWS as the production platform for a product I spent 18 months working on as well as my experiences playing with the services I never shipped to production.

Jared Faris is a developer and teacher who is focused on building great software to make companies money, improve peoples lives, and generally do good stuff. He’s worked with everything from legacy systems to modern languages like C# and Ruby, frameworks all over the place, and tons and tons of JavaScript. He’s a huge proponent of cloud computing and one of the organizers of CloudDevelop and he’s joining HMB to help make awesome dev teams even more awesomer.
